On Saturday, Dec. 9, boys’ basketball triumphed against Hamilton HS with a final score of 68-44.

This preseason game prepared the team for league, which officially starts after winter break.

Coach Willie Allen attributes the team’s success to communication and consistency.

“We [made] sure that we are on the same page, not only offensively, but also defensively,” Allen said. “[During] this game, we were locked into achieving [our goal], so we came out with more concentration on what we have to do individually to help the team.”

According to co-captain Ethan Canavan (12), this victory inspired the team to surpass expectations in future games.

“[The game] proved that we can [improve] if we keep playing  with confidence. [Eventually], we will be able to win league and go as far as we can in CIF,” Canavan said.

Following the game, point-guard Ricky Gurrola (11) will continue to contribute as much as he can to the team.

“Individually, [each of us] must have the mentality to go out there and [reach our goal]. When we come to practice everyday and [play] our hardest, [our efforts] will show in the game,” Gurrola said.

The next game will be home against Temple City HS on Dec. 19 at 6:30 pm.
